In the sense of interdisciplinary cardiac medicine, the Herz-Kreislaufzentrum Hersfeld-Rotenburg (HKZ) offers modern and comprehensive treatment for cardiovascular patients in close cooperation between cardiology, angiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and the Department of Cardiac Anesthesiology. Over 3,000 cardiac catheterization procedures are performed every year, covering all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The clinic also offers extensive cardiac rehabilitation measures and numerous cardiac outpatient clinics to ensure patients receive seamless care. The comprehensive range of services in the field of cardiovascular medicine includes advanced procedures for the treatment of heart valve diseases, such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for narrowing of the aortic valve or percutaneous reconstruction (“clipping”) for leaks in the mitral and/or tricuspid valve. Atrial appendage occlusion via the groin and many other structural procedures are also performed. Of course, the clinic offers comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the coronary arteries (coronary heart disease or chronic coronary syndrome) or pelvic leg vessels (peripheral arterial occlusive disease, PAD) caused by arteriosclerosis. The center has also specialized for many years in the treatment of advanced heart failure. The quality of treatment is ensured by regularly updated certification from the major specialist associations and continuous training of our staff in accordance with international standards.
Prof. Dr. Franz, who has outstanding professional expertise and an extensive academic background, is also an adjunct professor of internal medicine at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and has gained extensive experience as a senior consultant at Jena University Hospital. His research focuses on pathological cardiovascular tissue remodeling and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. In addition to his professional expertise, Prof. Dr. Franz is also known for his employee-oriented leadership and his strong dedication to teaching. His academic career has been marked by numerous awards, and his role as a visiting scientist at renowned institutions such as ETH Zurich underlines his international network and scientific reputation. Patients and staff appreciate him not only for his professional expertise, but also for his empathetic manner and his deep understanding of his patients’ needs.
