About us Prof. Paul Magnus Schneider

Professor Paul Magnus Schneider is a specialist in surgery with additional qualifications in abdominal surgery and thoracic surgery and is a highly experienced expert in the field of surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract and in the field of tumor surgery. Prof. Schneider contributes his specialist expertise to the top-class team of experts of the Zurich Surgical Center located at the renowned Hirslanden Hospital Group. Before he joined the Zurich Surgical Center as a specialist in surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract and in surgical oncology, Prof. Schneider had been the Deputy Clinical Director of the Department of Abdominal and Transplantation Surgery at Zurich University Hospital for nine years and acted as the Team Leader for surgery to the upper gastrointestinal tract during this period. In 2006, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne. Altogether, Prof. Schneider has already been engaged in leading a clinical position for over twenty years.

His experience in oncology already spans a total of well over 30 years. During this time, Prof. Schneider has been a visiting physician at variously highly regarded medical institutions, including in the USA, Japan, France and in Finland. Prof. Schneider passes on his comprehensive expertise in well over 100 articles and reviews in important specialist publication and as the author of individual chapters in medical textbooks. In addition, he is active as a medical referee, on the one hand, for various European institutions and, on the other hand, as a reviewer for scientific journals. For his extensive activities, his services in research and in the clinical field, Prof. Schneider has been honored with numerous awards, prizes and research scholarships. Together with the surgery to the upper gastrointestinal tract already mentioned, his core competences include conditions of the esophagus, the stomach, small intestine, the pancreas and of the spleen, and tumor surgery in the thoracic and abdominal cavity, as well as in the area of interdisciplinary tumor treatment, which also includes chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Endocrine surgery is also an important focus of Prof. Schneider’s work; here, he treats benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid gland and performs minimal invasive resections of the parathyroid glands.
