About us Clin. Professor Dr. med. habil. Dr. med. Dr. Konstantinos Gousias

An enormous advantage of the Athens Medical Center is the interdisciplinar close cooperation between different specialist departments of excellence and academic staff, that has been awarded additional academic positions in renowned university centers of Germany, UK and USA. This ensures precise and comprehensive care around the clock, in particular for patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions such as brain tumours, strokes, brain haemorrhages, brain injuries, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal disorders and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Neurosurgeons, neurologists, anaesthetists, neuroradiologists, radiologists and other specialists work closely together here to provide holistic care. The needs and concerns of the patients are the focus, and great importance is attached to open communication and individualised care. The experts at AMC take the time thoroughly to examine each patient, make the diagnosis and create a customised treatment plan together with the patient.

The neurosurgical operating theatres in AMC are very modern and comprehensively equipped, which allows the neurosurgical team led by Prof Dr Dr Gousias to perform innovative minimally invasive procedures in the field of oncological and vascular neurosurgery as well as in spinal surgery. Furthermore, in addition to the current established therapies, our patients also have access to numerous additional experimental therapies, especially in the treatment of brain tumours. Noteworthy, the Department headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Gousias is the only Greek Neurosurgical Department that is an Institute of European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

Active in research and teaching

In addition to his clinical work, head physician Prof Dr Dr med. Gousias is also active in research and teaching. He has published a large number of book articles and scientific papers, and is himself involved in the editing of various renowned journals.

He acts as clinical lead in several international and national multicentre trials. He is a regular presenter at national and international conferences, and frequently gives invited talks.

Through his commitment to teaching and training young medical students and doctors, he contributes to the further development and improvement of university education and medical care. He has obtained the 'venia legendi' (authorisation to teach in higher education) from the medical faculties of the Universities of Bonn, Münster and Nicosia.

In addition, Prof Dr Dr med. Gousias has extensive management knowledge and is a certified health manager as well as a quality management specialist. His scientific focus is on experimental and clinical neuro-oncology, neuroimmunology and neurovascular research. Prof Dr Dr med. Gousias is also a member of various national and international scientific committees and professional societies, including the Panel of the Neuro-oncology Section of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) , the Global and Humanitarian Committee of EANS , the Individual Membership Committee of EANS, the Neuro-oncology Section of the EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer), the German and European Society for Neurosurgery, the German Society for NeuroIntensive and Emergency Medicine, the German Spine Society, and the German University Association.

Prof Dr Dr med. Konstantinos Gousias a highly competent and dedicated doctor who is very much appreciated by his patients. His expertise and commitment to first-class medical care make him an excellent choice for patients requiring high-quality neurosurgical treatment. They appreciate Prof Gousias, MD, for his compassionate and patient-centred approach. He takes the time to understand exactly the individual needs and concerns of his patients. Through open communication, he ensures that his patients are fully informed about their treatment options and that individual treatment plans are drawn up together with them.
