Prof. Marc Schiesser is an abdominal surgeon and specializes in the surgical treatment of the upper abdominal organs. His core competencies include surgical procedures to the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas and gallbladder. Prof. Schiesser has made a name as a tumor surgeon, particularly in the surgical treatment of cancer conditions of the abdominal organs and for hepatic metastases and sarcomata of the abdomen. Surgical treatment for obesity in the course of bariatric surgery, for example, by means of a gastric bypass, is also a part of Prof. Schiesser’s service portfolio. His medical studies at the University of Zurich were followed by long-term practical experience at various Swiss and international hospitals, including the Zurich University Hospital, and most recently as the Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Surgery at the St. Gall Cantonal Hospital. As a member of multiple scientific specialist associations and working groups, Prof. Schiesser is also optimally networked. His appointment as Honorary Professor at the University of Zurich in 2017 underscores Prof. Schiesser’s reputation as a highly esteemed leader in his specialist field.
