Prof. Lars E. French is an internationally renowned dermatologist with an outstanding reputation. He has headed the Clinic and Polyclinic for Dermatology and Allergology at the University of Munich Hospital as its Clinical Director since November 2018. Prof. French is also the Director of Specialist Clinic I for Dermatology and Allergology at the Munich Hospital in the same building complex. Previously, Prof. French was the Director of the Department of Dermatology at the Zurich University Hospital in Switzerland for 12 years. Prof. French completed his medical studies at the University of Geneva, where he concentrated on internal medicine, foundational biological research and dermatology. Here, with funding support from the Swiss National Science Foundation, he very quickly established his own research group in the field of dermatology. Subsequently, he spent a year in research at the Department of Dermatology of the University of Pennsylvania (USA). His research emphases are in the field of inflammatory skin conditions, skin cancer and severe allergies. Together with teaching and his clinical practice, research has remained one of Prof. French’s professional mainstays. Prof. French has been awarded multiple prizes for his work. His extensive publication list, with over 300 works, also testifies to Prof. French’s wide-ranging successes in the field of dermatology research and rounds off his academic profile. Thanks to his membership of multiple renowned national and international specialist associations, Prof. French is particularly well networked across the world. In addition, he has been involved or is still involved in the executive committees of multiple associations, including the European Dermatology Forum (EDF), the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), the Swiss Dermatology and Venerology Association (SGDV) and the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS), and so he is particularly well networked internationally and contributes significantly to further development in the field of dermatology.
