About Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Marlovits
Professor Stefan Marlovits, MD, is a consultant in orthopaedics and traumatology, trauma surgery and sports traumatology, and is one of the leading specialists in diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. As a university professor at the Medical University of Vienna, he combines many years of clinical experience with scientific research and offers his patients treatment in accordance with the latest international medical standards. His aim is to provide long-term pain relief, maintain mobility and develop individual treatment plans tailored to each patient’s personal needs.
A particular focus of his work lies in the diagnosis and treatment of knee injuries, cartilage damage, osteoarthritis and fractures. In doing so, Univ.-Prof. Dr Marlovits consistently pursues the aim of preserving natural joint structures for as long as possible and performing surgical procedures in a way that is as gentle on the tissue as possible. His many years’ experience in reconstructive joint surgery, meniscus and cruciate ligament surgery, and the management of complex injuries make him a sought-after specialist for both recreational and elite athletes, as well as for patients with degenerative joint diseases.
Professor Marlovits is internationally recognised, particularly in the field of regenerative orthopaedics and orthobiology. For more than two decades, he has been intensively involved in cartilage regeneration and biological therapeutic methods such as PRP, autologous cartilage cell transplants and modern approaches to joint preservation. As Head of the Centre for Cartilage Regeneration, Orthobiology and Joint Preservation, as well as the Vienna Orthobiologic Institute (VOBI), he plays a key role in the further development of innovative treatment methods aimed at promoting the body’s own healing processes and, where possible, avoiding or delaying joint replacement.
Alongside his surgical work, Professor Stefan Marlovits has been actively involved in research, teaching and international professional societies for many years. Through his scientific work, the latest findings from orthopaedics, trauma surgery and regenerative medicine are directly incorporated into patient care. The result is modern, evidence-based medicine that combines the highest level of professional expertise with personalised care, and focuses on the long-term preservation of mobility and quality of life.
