Plastic and esthetic surgery - Medical specialists

Strictly speaking, these were once two different types of surgery: While plastic surgery is usually used for reconstruction, cosmetic surgery is mostly used to improve congenital or acquired defects.

The spectrum ranges from cleft palates to deformities of the ears to contusions or severed body parts. Esthetic surgery, on the other hand, originates from the idea of pure cosmetic enhancement: injected wrinkles are just as much a part of this as reduced or enlarged breasts, liposuction of fat deposits and nose reshaping. Today, however, the areas can no longer be separated - because burn surgery, for example, has also found new ways of achieving improvements in the field of esthetic surgery.
