Correction of breast asymmetry - Further information

What happens during a breast lift?

The adjustment is usually carried out by surgery. There are two options:

The aim of the operation is for both breasts to be the same size and as symmetrical as possible.

Sometimes it is necessary to perform a combination of both procedures. The surgeon then reduces the larger side and enlarges the smaller side. The chosen surgical method depends on the anatomical conditions and the patient's wishes.

Before breast augmentation surgery

A detailed consultation with an experienced specialist takes place before the planned procedure. During the consultation, the patient can express her wishes and clarify any unanswered questions.

Careful preparation for the operation is necessary to ensure the best possible success of the breast lift with the greatest possible symmetry. For this purpose, the surgeon draws the necessary incisions precisely on the breasts. This preliminary drawing serves as a guide during the operation and is absolutely essential.

Costs for a breast lift for unequal breasts

The cost of a breast lift depends primarily on the amount of work involved and the chosen treatment method. The doctor selects the treatment method together with the patient during the preliminary consultation.

The price range for a breast lift is between 4,000 and 8,000 EUR.

How does a breast lift for breast asymmetry work?

In some patients, the difference in size between the breasts is small. If the patient wishes to increase the overall size of her breasts, implants of different sizes can be used.

A breast lift and breast augmentation are associated with different risks and leave scars of different sizes on the breast. The surgeon must therefore carefully consider which procedure is most suitable for the patient in each individual case.

The surgical procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia in the presence of an anesthesiologist. The procedure itself is therefore painless for the patient.

Breast augmentation is usually performed under inpatient conditions. Therefore, the patient can also receive potent pain medication in the post-operative phase if necessary.

The initial period after breast augmentation

Depending on the surgical procedure chosen, you will need to wear a support bra day and night for three to six weeks after the operation.

If non-absorbable skin sutures are used, these must be removed after 8 to 14 days.

Avoid physical exertion for at least six weeks. You should also avoid direct sunlight on the scars for the first six months. The sun's rays could otherwise lead to discoloration of the scars.

Possible complications and risks of breast augmentation

No operation is without risks. Even with the greatest care, complications can occur during or after the procedure.

Heavy bleeding can occurduring the operation, particularly in the case of lifting or reduction procedures. A blood transfusion is then very rarely necessary. To avoid the risk of infection from a blood transfusion, it may be possible and advisable to donate your own blood.

In very rare cases, pressure damage to nerves or soft tissue can occur. This will disappear within a few weeks.

Possible complications after an operation are

  • Postoperative bleeding,
  • Bruising,
  • numbness of the nipple and breast skin as well as
  • very rarely circulatory and wound healing disorders at the scars.

The appearance of scars varies from patient to patient depending on their constitution. With a corresponding predisposition, bulging, thick, discolored and painful scars (keloids) can develop. Such scars sometimes require corrective surgery.

Breast augmentation surgery can also affect the ability to breastfeed. In rare cases, wound infections can also occur, which require a follow-up operation.

No surgeon can guarantee 100% symmetry. Patients must be aware of this.
