This therapy can also be beneficial for adenomyosis (a specific form of uterine disease) or fibroadenomas (benign tumors) of the breast. What is the advantage of undergoing HIFU treatment? The HIFU method can help patients avoid certain surgical procedures. For example, no instruments need to be inserted into the body, and surrounding tissue is spared. This offers many advantages over surgery. Furthermore, the treatment can be repeated as often as needed; tumor cell spread is not possible because the method is non-invasive and involves no radiation exposure. Professor Vogl, the use of HIFU is still a very novel procedure in the European context. How many patients have you already treated successfully with it? The efficacy and safety of HIFU have already been demonstrated in numerous studies. Here in Germany, it is already being used in isolated cases. We now treat an average of two patients per week.
