The fact that his reputation extends all the way to China has now been documented in a special way: Prof. Heindl was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at Zhejiang University.

Whether it’s comprehensive diagnostics, complex eye and eyelid surgery, or scientific publications, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. Ludwig Heindl is well-versed in all areas of ophthalmology. He enjoys an equally high reputation in the fields of eye tumors and ocular prosthetics as he does in eyelid surgery. The head of the Division of Ophthalmic Oncology and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Center for Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Cologne also serves as the medical director of the outpatient clinic and the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Function Laboratory and is the research coordinator of the Eye Clinic.
“Outstanding Contributions to Ophthalmology”
The Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China, honored Prof. Heindl for his exceptional contributions to ophthalmology, particularly in the fields of ophthalmic oncology and ophthalmic plastic surgery. The conferral of the title of Honorary Professor is a special and rare distinction—a fact explicitly noted by the Senate of Zhejiang University. Prof. Yao Ke, Director of the Eye Center at Zhejiang University’s Second Affiliated Hospital, summed up the significance of the award: “In China, the title of Honorary Professor expresses a special recognition that is bestowed upon only a very select few outstanding scientists,” he said.
Like the Center for Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Cologne, the Zhejiang University Eye Hospital also holds a prominent position in China. It ranks among the top five eye hospitals in China in terms of expertise—and is also one of the largest ophthalmological hospitals in the world. With over 550 employees, a total of 28 operating rooms, and more than 200 hospital beds, the clinic at the School of Medicine in Hangzhou is truly massive in scale: over 80,000 surgeries are performed there annually.

For Prof. Heindl, this special distinction is a great honor.
