Labiaplasty is used in aesthetic surgery to correct the appearance of the female genitalia.
Unwanted changes to the labia occur at any age. There are many reasons for changes to the labia minora. Reasons for labia augmentation can be that the labia are
- are flaccid,
- are too weak,
- a previous tightening procedure was not effective enough,
- a lipoma or tumor of the genital area has occurred or
- the protective function at the entrance to the vagina is no longer guaranteed.
Changes or sagging of the labia majora (labia majora or labia minora) also frequently occur after weight loss. In such cases, the aesthetics of the region may no longer be given.
Some women find the shape, size and above all the consistency of their labia majora unaesthetic. The vulva (external female genitalia) is increasingly being reshaped with a view to rejuvenation. The labia minora are reduced in size and the labia majora are enlarged so that the labia minora are completely covered by the labia majora.
Labia augmentation is performed using the body's own fat . In principle, this type of labiaplasty is a fatty tissue transplant or autologous fat injection.
Clinical studies have shown that approximately one third of the injected fatty tissue remains permanently. Accordingly, second procedures may be indicated after four to six months.
You do not need to prepare specifically for the operation. We recommend that you shave the genital area 24 hours before the procedure to reduce the risk of infection.
For a period of 14 days before the operation, you should
- no painkillers, such as aspirin, and
- blood thinning medication such as Marcumar
as these delay blood clotting. You should also largely avoid alcohol, sleeping pills and nicotine.
Before the anesthetist induces anesthesia, the areas are measured again.
Fat padding (lipofilling) can be performed under a short anesthetic. The surgeon first sucks out the body's own fat using thin cannulas. The buttock region is very suitable for this. This fatty tissue is cleaned and processed. The labia minora are then infiltrated using special instruments with a microfat injection technique.
The procedure takes about 60 to 80 minutes. Between 8 to 12 ml of fat is required per session and per side.
Your stay in hospital will be between one and three days, depending on the extent of the operated area.

Immediately after the operation, you will need painkillers to give you the rest and relaxation you need to heal. If necessary, you will be given an antibiotic for the first 24 hours.
You should wear thrombosis stockings to prevent blood clots and embolisms. This also includes daily subcutaneous thrombosis prophylaxis.
No operation is without risk! If you suffer from
special precautions must be taken with your doctor. In this case, let him or her know in advance of the operation,
- whether you have any allergies to medication, plasters or ointments,
- suffer from other illnesses and
- take medication regularly.
It is also important to keep the wound area very clean. As these are intimate wound areas, bacterial infections can interfere with healing.
After the procedure, in addition to the general surgical risks, a slight "pulling" to moderate pain may occur. This usually subsides a few days after the procedure.
Sensitivity disorders with feelings of numbness may occur in the area of the suction. These normally disappear almost completely within a few weeks.
Circulatory and wound healing disorders can lead to slower wound healing and unsightly, wider scars. Injury to lymphatic vessels can lead to swelling following this operation.
It is particularly important to take it easy for the first three days after labia augmentation. Even too much walking can cause friction in the pubic area and lead to
- bleeding,
- increased swelling or
- "floating away" of the transplanted fat cells.
cells. The dressing consists of an antiseptic ointment, compresses and a sanitary napkin, which can be changed if necessary and removed when going to the toilet.
Showering is generally permitted again after 48 hours, but should not be too extensive. Bathing is only possible after six weeks at the earliest and if the wound is stable and closed. You must wait two to three weeks before engaging in sexual activity.
Increased swelling may occur after labia augmentation. You should therefore take a chamomile sitz bath at least once a day. This swelling can also lead to an optical asymmetry of the labia. It usually takes three to six months for all swelling to disappear.
During this period, we recommend avoiding lifting and carrying heavy loads as well as sports and saunas.
Vitamins and zinc are important factors for a good healing phase. You should therefore pay particular attention to a good, balanced diet rich in vitamins.
It is normally possible to return to everyday life after just 72 hours, as there are usually only minor post-operative symptoms.
You will be informed about further measures for your individual follow-up treatment before you are discharged from hospital.
Cosmetic treatment to enlarge or fill the labia can vary greatly from person to person. Labia augmentation is available from €2000.
The aim of most interventions on the external genitalia in women is to achieve an aesthetically harmonious result. The skills and experience of the surgeon performing the procedure are essential for a positive result.
