In today's society, more and more people are opting for cosmetic procedures and rejuvenation treatments. This trend is driven by a variety of motivations. One major factor is the desire to counteract the natural aging process and to adapt the external appearance to the inner attitude to life. Many people no longer feel comfortable in their skin due to age-related changes such as wrinkles or sagging skin and see aesthetic procedures as a way of boosting their self-confidence and preserving their youthfulness.
But how does a visceral surgeon come to perform aesthetic treatments? "As a visceral surgeon, I also did bariatric surgery, which is also part of the training and spectrum of a visceral surgeon. However, I never liked this form of surgery. But I have met some patients who were very overweight and needed liver surgery, for example. Surgery on severely overweight people is not recommended and sometimes not even possible. So I started to think about how I could reduce the patient's weight to make surgery better or even possible. I started by prescribing medication (liraglutide, a predecessor of the semaglutide used today) to support weight loss. This was all successful, and some patients lost around 80 kilos this way. More and more patients came to me because they wanted to lose weight and not because they needed an operation, as word of mouth spread about the success of losing weight with medication. And so I began to offer non-invasive weight loss," says Dr. Oweira at the beginning of our conversation, explaining how he has further optimized weight loss for patients:
"I then bought a device that works with electromagnets and radio frequency and supports the patient's muscle training by tightening muscles, but also burns calories and leads to localized fat reduction. This device has been used in patients to reduce the abdominal circumference, but also in patients after hernia surgery to strengthen the abdominal muscles. The combination of the device and medication was very successful and patients lost a lot of weight. The side effect was often a large excess of skin. As a result, the need for skin tightening was high. It was like a chain reaction. And so I decided to open an aesthetic center."

Gentle skin rejuvenation without surgery: non-invasive methods for natural results.
Among the methods offered at MyFair Clinic are EMsculpt NEO, for fat burning and muscle toning, HydraFacial for a comprehensive facial treatment, radio frequency microneedling for skin tightening and EMFACE for a non-invasive facelift. Treatments such as laser hair removal, cellulite reduction and vaginal tightening are also offered, all with the aim of improving appearance without surgery.
"In principle, we pursue three goals at the MyFair clinic: Skin tightening, muscle building and weight reduction. We achieve weight loss with the aforementioned combination of electromagnets/radiofrequency plus the administration of the active ingredient semaglutide. Skin tightening is about improving blood circulation, for which we use ultrasound plus radiofrequency, which causes old collagen to die off and new collagen to form. This process causes the skin to shrink and look more vital. We also use lasers to improve the surface of the skin. It then becomes much smoother and pigmentation also disappears. We also have a laser device for spider veins and permanent hair removal. As far as muscle building is concerned, we work with Emsculpt Neo, which combines high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) with radio frequency energy to reduce fat and build muscle at the same time. This innovative procedure offers a dual effect aimed at toning and shaping the body. It can be applied to almost any musculature, be it the abdomen, legs, arms or buttocks. This technology is also very suitable for older people who need to undergo rehabilitation, as their muscle strength is significantly improved with this technology. One session is roughly equivalent to performing 20,000 sit-ups or push-ups! This means that muscles can be built up well and effectively,“ explains Dr. Hani Oweira and comments on a question about his patients' expectations:
"My patients have very different expectations. Many patients want to reduce their weight for aesthetic reasons and some simply want to be fit again. I also sometimes have older patients who were very overweight, who were sometimes no longer able to put their shoes on themselves. After their treatment with us, they felt much more active and vital, were able to move around again without any problems and take part in everyday life as normal. At the Aesthetics Center, the focus is on rejuvenation - it is a combination of aesthetics and fitness. By achieving the desired results relatively quickly, we also motivate people to continue with their sporting activities. Many business people who have little time to go to the gym, for example, also come to us to rebuild their muscles quickly and effectively. Our equipment is medically certified, which can only be used in doctors' surgeries, and the results are incredibly good."
Non-invasive facelift: skin tightening and rejuvenation using radiofrequency and ultrasound technology - without surgery.
A non-invasive facelift includes various methods to tighten and rejuvenate the skin without the need for surgery. These techniques aim to improve skin structure, reduce wrinkles and define facial contours. Procedures such as radiofrequency therapy are used, in which electromagnetic waves are used to heat the deep layers of the skin and thus stimulate collagen production. Ultrasound therapy has a similar effect, particularly highly focused ultrasound therapy (HIFU), which specifically reaches deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin.
"You first have to ask yourself the question: Why do you look older? The body and face age because the muscles become weaker and the skin loses elasticity. Our ‘EmFace’ treatment, an innovative, non-invasive treatment, uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate and strengthen the facial muscles. The aim of the method is to improve muscle tone, tighten the skin and reduce visible signs of aging. This leads to defined facial contours, especially on the cheeks and jawline. Sessions last 20 to 30 minutes and focus on the face, chin and neck. There is hardly any downtime, only slight redness or sensitivity. Four sessions 1-2 weeks apart are recommended, followed by maintenance treatments every 3-6 months to achieve visible results. You then have a lifting effect without surgery and without scars. In addition, we also offer Exion™ microneedling, a skin rejuvenation method that creates micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. This further smoothes the skin's texture, reduces potential acne scars, shrinks pores and improves elasticity, resulting in a more youthful complexion. This treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes and is available for different areas of the body. It also requires very little downtime and shows visible results after just one month. Exion™, for me the best device in the world, can ideally complement a non-invasive facelift as it effectively regenerates and improves deeper skin structures," Dr. Oweira clarifies and adds:
"We also offer treatment with `Exilis Ultra 360™', a non-invasive treatment that combines radiofrequency and ultrasound technologies to tighten and contour the skin. This method works on both superficial and deeper layers of the skin, reducing wrinkles and improving skin elasticity. Sessions last 30 to 60 minutes and can be applied to the face and body. With minimal downtime, patients are immediately fit for everyday life again. Initial results are visible after 4 to 6 sessions, with maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.
There are risks with everything. In the very unlikely event of these treatments, burns may occur or an allergy may be triggered. In any case, there is a much lower risk than with surgery! The treatments are suitable for all ages and all skin types. My oldest patient, for example, was 85 years old. The results of the therapies last for around five years or more and rejuvenate patients by around ten years. If the effect wears off after 5-7 years, it can be “refreshed” with a session."
Medical advances: Innovations for better health.
"Medical research has made significant progress in recent years, particularly with the introduction of minimally invasive procedures. These techniques enable operations with lower risks, less pain and shorter recovery times for patients. The addition of robotics has also changed the surgical world. Overall, however, there is certainly still a lot of room for improvement. On average, something new is developed every 3-4 years! All the technical possibilities have developed rapidly in recent years and have also demonstrably optimized my work," says Dr. Oweira, and with that we conclude our conversation.
Thank you, Dr. Oweira, for explaining all the aesthetic treatment options you offer at your My Fair clinics!
