Eyebrow lift - Further information

What is an eyebrow lift?

An eyebrow lift usually refers to the surgical lifting of the eyebrows. It can be performed for medical or cosmetic reasons.

Drooping eyebrows, bags under the eyes and sagging eyelids make a face look older than it actually is. An eyebrow lift is an excellent way to rejuvenate the face and give it more elasticity.

Aesthetic surgery today offers several options for lifting

are available. Remarkable results can be achieved with comparatively little effort. At the same time, the arch can be corrected. The shape of the eyebrows is ultimately a matter of taste. Women love beautifully curved, rather high brows, while men prefer distinctive, relatively straight brows.

You can choose between a simple eyebrow lift without surgery or a surgical eyebrow lift.

Hyaluronic acid or Botox is injected for an eyebrow lift without surgery. However, the results of these methods last for a maximum of six months and then need to be renewed. In addition, the eyebrow cannot be modulated as finely as with minor surgery.

What are the advantages of an eyebrow lift?

Some people have genetically asymmetrical brows. However, the shape of the eyebrows usually changes as a result of the natural ageing process. If there are noticeable differences between the right and left side of the face, those affected quickly feel unattractive. This can have a negative impact on self-confidence.

A surgical eyebrow lift has many aesthetic benefits and boosts self-confidence. It is a minor, minimally invasive operation.

The endoscopic procedure can be performed

  • under local anaesthetic,
  • in twilight sleep or
  • under general anesthesia

take place.

At around one centimeter, the skin incision is just large enough to allow the endoscope to be inserted. It lies behind the hairline. Only the trained eye can see it. Only a tiny scar remains after the operation.

In a direct eyebrow lift, a small incision is made directly above the eyebrow (alternatively in a forehead crease) and the eyebrow is lifted. Although the shape of the eyebrows can be easily determined, slightly visible scars remain.

An eyebrow lift creates an open look and can therefore change the entire facial expression.

The brows are given an aesthetic lift and the face appears younger and friendlier.

Eyebrow lift techniques

The technique used depends on the current state of the eyebrows and the desired end result.

Three techniques are commonly used, each of which achieves a different effect:

In a classic eyebrow lift, the surgeon removes a small strip of skin from the upper edge of the brow. The remaining edges are sutured without tension. If the brows are thick, the scar is completely covered by the hair. If the brows are thin, the surgeon moves the scar to the area of the main hair. If desired, he can also perform a temple lift at the same time, which lifts the brows and reduces crow's feet.

The upper third of the face can be significantly harmonized using an eyebrow lift with forehead lift. This surgical technique starts from the hairy base of the head and is ideal for deep forehead wrinkles. Here too, the scar is very discreet and hidden in the scalp hair.

Eyebrow lifting with a thread lift uses a self-dissolving thread with small barbs. The surgeon uses this to lift the eyebrows slightly. Their shape can also be changed in this way. The procedure is a discreet correction without a scar and is often combined with an upper eyelid lift. The so-called thread lift lasts for three to five years.

Preparation for the eyebrow lift

Even small changes in the eye area can significantly alter the entire facial expression. That is why this procedure, even if it is relatively harmless, must be carefully considered.

The surgeon will give precise instructions on preparation, such as

  • diet,
  • smoking and
  • discontinuation of certain medications.

Following these rules will ensure that the operation goes smoothly. Blood-thinning medication must be discontinued a few weeks before the lift in consultation with the family doctor.

What happens after the operation?

The suture is covered with a few strips of plaster. A larger bandage is not necessary. Patients can leave the clinic immediately after the procedure.

The forehead and brows may still feel a little numb. To reduce swelling more quickly, the affected areas of skin must be cooled frequently for the first three days. Ideally, patients should lie in bed with their upper body elevated for the next three days. Sport is prohibited for two to three weeks.

The plasters are removed after about a week. The skin in this area can now also get wet. The operated area must not come into contact with cosmetics for a further week.

Bruising may be visible for another two weeks.

How much does an eyebrow lift cost?

The costs of this type of cosmetic surgery are borne by the patient. They should expect to pay between €1,200 and €1,900.

The costs are only covered by health insurance if the procedure is medically necessary. A medical indication is only given if the patient can no longer cope with everyday life without the operation.

Using the eyebrow lift as an example, severe psychological impairments could justify the assumption of costs. Once the application has been submitted, the situation is assessed by the medical service of the health insurance companies.
