About us Prof. Dr. med. Peter Oppelt

The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics considers itself to be able to provide the entire range of care for female medical conditions. Diagnosis and treatment of all female medical conditions / expectant mothers can be provided in our own facility.

Thanks to our integration into a variety of international networks, we are continuously able to provide the most up to date therapeutic options.
As from 1 January 2016, the Department will become a part of the recently founded Kepler University Hospital, Linz [http://www.kepleruniklinikum.at]
Gynaecology

  • As an internationally certified gynaecological Tumour Centre (OnkoZert), our focus is primarily on minimally invasive surgical techniques. Thanks to the interdisciplinary co-ordination with colleagues in the Surgery Department and the Urology Department, there is also long-standing experience and expertise in interdisciplinary procedures. Both for pre-cancer stages (CIN) and for carcinomata in pregnancy, there is a high standard and long-standing expertise.
  • The expertise of the clinical / scientific Endometriosis Centre, certified since 2010, is in surgical treatment (including bowel and bladder endometriosis), as well as in collaboration with our own Fertility Centre
  • Paediatric gynaecology concerns all problems in children and adolescents (including genital malformations).

Obstetrics

As the largest maternity hospital in Austria, we deliver more than 3,800 children per year. All expectant mothers are cared for at our facility, regardless of their gestational age or any pathology which has appeared during the pregnancy (including HELLP, pre-eclampsia). The babies are optimally cared for at all times by the in-house Paediatric Clinic and the Neonatology Department. Should the baby have to be transferred to the Paediatric Clinic after delivery, it is only a very short step from the delivery suite to the baby.

Gynaecological Endocrinology & Fertility Centre

  • All technical methods of artificial insemination are performed at the Fertility Centre. With the introduction of a completely newly developed time lapse imaging system, the Fertility Centre of the LFKK demonstrates once again that it is internationally one of the leading cutting-edge centres in the field of in vitro fertilisation (IVF). This system concerns an incubator, which is also equipped with state of the art image recording and a special evaluation system. If the embryos with the greatest implantation potential were only able to be assessed to date by repeatedly opening the incubator and a daily check under the microscope, then the new equipment will enable 24-hour analysis of the cell cultures in the future.
  • If chemotherapy is necessary prior to fulfilling your desire to have a child, irreparable damage to the ovaries could result, depending on the chemotherapy. Using various fertility protection techniques, such as the removal of ovarian tissue or harvesting egg cells prior to commencing this type of treatment, in many circumstances, you may have a chance of your own pregnancy. If the treatment has been completed and a certain period has passed without a recurrence, the tissue, for example, can be transplanted again. Hence, you still have a reasonable chance of having your own children.
