About us Dr. Henrik Zecha

Dr. Henrik Zecha is the Chief Physician of the Department of Urology and Urooncology of the Albertine Hospital in Hamburg. As a specialist in conditions of the urinary bladder, the prostate gland, the kidneys, the ureters and urinary incontinence in men and women, Dr. Zecha treats his patients together with his team of experts.

Dr. Zecha is a specialist in urology and looks back on a long and diverse professional career in the field of urology. The expert in conditions of the urinary organs and the prostate gland is networked in national and international specialist associations. In addition, Dr. Zecha is in direct contact with the young scientific talent and with medical research. He is involved in the area of training his urology colleagues, above all in the surgical area of minimal invasive treatment, particularly state-of-the-art robot-assisted surgery.

The Urology Department of the Albertine Hospital, under Dr. Zecha is the first hospital in Hamburg to have been named as an International Training Center for robot-assisted da Vinci surgery to the urinary bladder, the kidneys, the prostate gland and for reconstruction. So, international guests come to the Albertine Hospital in order to monitor da Vinci operations at the hospital. Dr. Zecha has trained these colleagues across Europe for many years as Proctor / Trainer.

Dr. Zecha’s treatment emphases combine urology and oncology into one comprehensive medical science for women and men. His team treats all benign tumors, kidney and ureter stones, pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence and the enlargement of the prostate gland. One further emphasis is in medication-based and surgical cancer treatment.

In his Urology Clinic, Dr. Zecha provides meticulously designed therapeutic concepts for his patients with renal, urinary bladder, prostate gland (prostatic cancer and enlargement of the prostate) conditions and sexual dysfunctions (erectile dysfunction and potency problems). Renal stones and ureteral stones are more frequent in men than in women. Either medication and/or safe and gentle surgical techniques can be utilized for these conditions. Dr. Zecha discusses what conservative treatment is possible and when a surgical procedure will be necessary with his patients in detail.

As a specialist in the overall field of urology, Dr. Zecha can provide open, endoscopic, laparoscopic and robot-assisted (da Vinci) surgery.
All surgical techniques are provided in the Department of Urology and Urooncology of the Albertine Hospital. Here, laparoscopy, and above all, the da Vinci robot-assisted technique, take center stage. The proven advantages of minimal invasive techniques, such as:
  • fewer complications
  • fewer to no wound healing disorders
  • short hospital stay
  • less blood loss
  • less use of painkillers
mean a more gentle progress for the patient, both before and after surgery.
Together with established transurethral techniques for the prostate gland and the urinary bladder, innovative laser treatments can also be provided for these organs. A first for the range of surgical services is completely minimal invasive da Vinci cystectomy with the insertion of an ileal conduit (urinary diversion with a bag solution), ureteral fistula or an artificial bladder. Organ-conserving renal tumor surgery and prostatectomy using the da Vinci technique are also a part of the surgical therapeutic range. In addition, reconstruction is performed for congenital or acquired conditions, for example, pyeloplasty, for ureteral and bladder reconstruction and for urethral reconstruction.

Patients with cancer conditions of the urinary organs, such as renal and bladder cancer, will find an established expert in Dr. Zecha. Thorough examination by means of biopsies (tissue samples) and MRI imaging precede surgical, radiotherapy or medication treatment. Of course, Dr. Zecha will decide how the treatment will be individually arranged together with you, his patient.

In the field of modern medication-based tumor therapy, comprehensive and, as a rule, multimodal therapeutic concepts are established with the specialists at the hospital, the oncologists. Hence, these combined treatments are applied promptly and in a target at fashion for patients. Together with conventional chemotherapy, Dr. Zecha and his team, which consists of physicians experienced in urooncology, increasingly utilize innovative medications, immunotherapy and targeted medications, for example, for renal tumors. This can increase the chances of the preservation of the quality of life considerably and side-effects are reduced.

From the first meeting in the initial consultation, to the thorough examination and diagnosis, during the treatment period and right up to the gentle follow-up care, patient safety and the wellbeing of all patients always take center stage for Dr. Zecha and his team.
