Special Clinical Focus
Prostate cancer diagnostics (MRI-guided perineal fusion biopsy, PSMA-PET, tumour genetic and molecular pathological diagnostics)
Prostate cancer therapy (robot-assisted removal of the prostate with the da Vinci® surgical system, drug therapy, radiotherapy, radionuclide therapy)
The focus of the certified prostate cancer centre is primarily the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Prostate carcinoma is the most common tumour disease in men. Since changes in the prostate gland are easily treatable if diagnosed in time, those affected should not hesitate to consult a urologist early on if they have symptoms. The Prostata Centrum Gronau offers state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and a wide range of treatment methods.
After a thorough medical history, diagnostics and consultation with the patient, the optimal treatment method is worked out in each individual case. An experienced team of doctors treats the patient according to the latest medical standards, while the patient concierges and patient managers take care of the patient's personal needs and organisational matters.
High-tech in the operating theatre: The da Vinci® surgical system
The robot-assisted, minimally invasive surgical procedure is the gold standard at the Prostata Centrum Gronau for so-called "radical prostatectomy", i.e. the complete removal of the prostate, as it offers convincing advantages compared to conventional surgical methods. Thanks to the three-dimensional view of the surgical area, which is magnified many times over, the instrument tips, which can move in all directions and are modelled on the human wrist, the possibility of jitter-free movements and a relaxed posture of the surgeon during the operation, robot-assisted operations are possible with a precision that cannot be achieved with other surgical methods. In addition, surgery is performed through very small incisions, i.e. minimally invasive. The overall burden for the patient is significantly reduced. The reasons for this are less blood loss, significantly reduced complication rates, less pain after the operation, barely visible scars at the end and thus a faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. Due to the rapid convalescence, the patient can quickly return to his or her normal daily routine.
Nerve preservation through precision
Due to the extraordinary precision achieved by the experienced surgeons with the robot-assisted surgical technique, the nerves and vascular structures that are crucial for continence and especially potency can often be preserved. The Prostata Centrum Gronau can boast of a wealth of experience from more than 20,000 robot-assisted operations - including more than 18,000 prostate cancer operations - and the latest da Vinci® surgical technology in five operating theatres. This makes the clinic in Gronau one of the largest and most renowned centres for robot-assisted surgery in the world. The high-tech surgical method is also successfully used by the Gronau team of experts for other complex procedures such as (partial) kidney removal or urinary bladder surgery (cystectomy).
Education and training centre
Due to its pioneering role in robot-assisted prostate surgery, the Prostata Centrum Gronau is a sought-after partner nationally and internationally for scientific congresses and in the field of education and training of surgeons and nursing staff. With the Training Centre at the "European Robotic Institute" (ERI), the clinic has its own education and training centre where specialised training in the field of robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery is offered.
Holistic therapy concept
The specialised prostate centre also takes innovative approaches in the area of patient care that go far beyond the usual standards in Germany. The holistic therapy concept includes all-round care with a high level of comfort. For example, patient concierges and patient managers support patients with all formalities and the coordination of appointments. This ensures complete documentation and a smooth process in the implementation of the therapy as well as in its preparation and follow-up. In addition, optional services such as single or double rooms, special meals and hotel service make the hospital stay in Gronau as pleasant as possible.
Own study centre
The Prostata Centrum Gronau has its own study centre where the oncological and functional therapy results in the field of prostate cancer treatment can be digitally recorded by trained specialists and evaluated in an extensive database. Within the framework of systematic patient surveys, dozens of factors of the quality of life of each individual patient are collected over a period spanning decades after the surgical intervention. In this way, the quality of treatment is assessed and improved much more precisely than is the case in other medical facilities. The study centre also organises, coordinates and supports participation in international clinical trials and numerous scientific research projects.
