Laurenz Schmitt

PD Dr. med. Laurenz Schmitt is a board-certified specialist in dermatology, allergology, phlebology, and systemic tumor therapy and co-founder of the Skin Center Weinheim. In his dermatology practice in Weinheim, he offers modern diagnostics and individualized treatment concepts for a broad spectrum of skin conditions. His areas of focus include skin cancer screening, treatment of skin cancer, outpatient skin surgery, laser therapy, as well as aesthetic dermatology. The goal of his work is to maintain long-term skin health and to combine evidence-based dermatology with personalized care.

A particular focus of his work is in surgical dermatology and dermatosurgery. With over 10,000 skin surgeries performed and more than 1,300 skin cancer surgeries per year, PD Dr. Schmitt has exceptional expertise in skin cancer treatment. The tumor types most commonly treated include basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, as well as other epithelial skin tumors. Modern dermatosurgical techniques enable precise removal of skin tumors as well as functionally and aesthetically sophisticated reconstructions. Previously, he served as senior physician and head of dermatosurgery at the University Hospitals of Heidelberg and Aachen and is now considered one of the experienced specialists for skin surgery and skin cancer treatment in Weinheim and the Rhine-Neckar region.

Another focus of the practice is modern laser and light-based therapy. This includes in particular laser-assisted photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of actinic keratoses and field cancerization, common precancerous skin conditions. Targeted laser pretreatment of the skin enhances the absorption of the active agent, allowing even large-area skin changes to be treated effectively. In addition, several state-of-the-art laser systems are used, including KTP lasers, Er:YAG lasers, and ruby lasers, enabling precise and minimally invasive treatment of dermatologic and aesthetic skin conditions.

In addition to his clinical work, PD Dr. Schmitt is actively involved in research and teaching. As part of his habilitation at RWTH Aachen University, he investigated the molecular biological effects of laser therapy and wound healing and has published numerous scientific papers and book contributions. This combination of academic research, modern technology, and many years of dermatosurgical experience forms the foundation of his specialized work at the Skin Center Weinheim – offering a comprehensive range of services from skin cancer screening, skin cancer treatment, laser therapy, and aesthetic dermatology to innovative molecular fungal diagnostics (PCR).
