Prof. Dr. med. Bassam Redwan (FRCP, FACS) is the Chief Physician of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Knappschaft Kliniken Gelsenkirchen-Buer and is among the leading specialists in his field. As an internationally recognized thoracic surgeon, he combines top-level medical expertise with innovative treatment methods and exceptionally patient-centered care. His qualifications as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons underscore his outstanding competence and global reputation in modern thoracic surgery.

There is a close collaboration with one of the largest centers for pediatric tumors in Bulgaria at the University Hospital Plovdiv, where Prof. Redwan regularly performs thoracic surgical procedures on children with tumor diseases—both in Gelsenkirchen-Buer and in Bulgaria.

In his work, Prof. Redwan places great emphasis on the use of state-of-the-art surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures such as uniportal VATS, complex bronchovascular reconstructions, the treatment of centrally located tumors, as well as the use of extracorporeal lung replacement procedures (ECMO) during complex operations or in patients with limited lung function. His goal is to offer gentle, precise, and highly effective treatment options that allow his patients to recover quickly and achieve the highest possible quality of life.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Prof. Redwan is deeply involved in research and teaching. As a professor at Hochschule Fresenius—a position awarded to him by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research—he actively contributes to the further development of medical education.
