About us

The Department of Pulmonology at the University Hospital Basel is specialized in diagnostics and treatment of all disorders concerning the respiratory system and the pulmonary tissue. As the largest pulmonological department in Switzerland, we are able to offer the complete spectrum of modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the area of pulmonary diseases. At our sleep laboratory, respiratory disorders can be diagnosed and assessed during sleep and individual breathing techniques can be developed for each patient. The Department of Pulmonology cooperates closely with the Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital Basel and is an integral part of the “Treatment Center Lungs” (Behandlungszentrum Lunge). Aside of our clinical work, our task as a university hospital is to offer postgraduate training in pulmonology for our fellow colleagues. Additionally, we regularly offer advanced training sessions for practicing specialists in pulmonology. The Department of Pulmonology contributes significantly to a possible broadening of knowledge in the area of pulmonary disorders by clinical trials and fundamental research on both a national and international level.
