Prof. Amadeus Hornemann is known for his surgical expertise, particularly in the treatment of diseases such as endometriosis, myomas, bleeding disorders and other uterine diseases, as well as for his commitment to the prevention of gynecological diseases. After studying human medicine and successfully completing his specialist training in gynecology, Prof. Hornemann gained valuable professional experience in various management positions. From 2008 to 2010, he was a senior physician at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein in Lübeck, before moving to the University Medical Center Mannheim as a senior physician. In July 2020, he took over the position of Chief Physician at DGD Sachsenhausen Hospital. Prof. Hornemann is also an adjunct professor at the University of Heidelberg, which further underlines his academic and scientific expertise.
With the opening of the new clinic for surgical gynecology at the Bürgerhospital in 2024, the hospital is significantly expanding its range of services. Under the direction of Prof. Hornemann, a special focus will be placed on minimally invasive surgical techniques, which enable patients to undergo gentle procedures and recover more quickly. The new clinic specializes in the treatment of various gynecological diseases and offers a wide range of surgical treatment options, particularly for conditions such as uterine and vaginal prolapse, endometriosis and myomas.
In 2018, Prof. Amadeus Hornemann developed an innovative method for treating uterine prolapse that uses the body's own tissue instead of synthetic mesh. Tendon tissue is taken from the patient's thigh to support the uterus. This technique reduces the risk of complications such as inflammation or rejection and promotes rapid healing. This procedure has been successfully tested over several years and its standardized technique and effectiveness have been documented in various specialist publications. It is regarded as a significant advance in gynecology and has already been recognized with several prizes and awards. Back in 2012, Professor Amadeus Hornemann set new standards in laparoscopic gynecological surgery in Germany as a pioneer. He introduced innovative 3D laparoscopy, which added an additional dimension to the previous two-dimensional image transmission. These advances enabled surgical procedures to be performed more precisely and therefore more safely, which he also investigated scientifically.
The Bürgerhospital recorded a total of 4,154 births in 2023, making it the hospital with the highest birth rate in Germany. This underlines the Bürgerhospital's role as an important perinatal center that specializes in the care of high-risk pregnancies. In addition to its surgical expertise, the hospital is characterized by its comprehensive range of preventive and early detection measures, which particularly benefits women with high-risk pregnancies. With his commitment to the highest medical standards and innovative treatment methods, Prof. Hornemann is taking the Bürgerhospital to a new level as head physician of the new Clinic for Operative Gynecology and is making a significant contribution to the further development of operative gynecology in Frankfurt am Main.
