In the centre of the Swiss metropolis of Zurich, this gynaecological practice offers state-of-the-art care concepts and a high level of expertise in the field: “Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe Seefeld” by Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann, Consultant in Gynaecology (Foederatio Medicorum Helveticorum), Obstetrics and Perinatal Medicine (Foederatio Medicorum Helveticorum), is impressive not only thanks to the first-class expertise and broad range of services provided there, but also the high level of empathy among the staff. The philosophy of this dedicated team includes always catering to patients’ wishes and providing a real sense of security.
Whether in the field of perinatal medicine, general gynaecology or diagnostics and surgical procedures relating to fertility, Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann and his team at “Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe Seefeld” (GGS) in the heart of Zurich are the perfect point of contact.
As a Consultant in Gynaecology, Prof. Dr. Breymann has many years of experience. In the field of gynaecological surgery, he often carries out procedures such as laparoscopy and uterine endoscopy using the innovative keyhole surgery technique, which is a particularly non-invasive surgical method leaving almost no scarring. Hysterectomies, incontinence operations and curettage are also provided here.
The renowned specialist is often the last hope for couples who have not yet been able to have children. Thanks to these procedures, he has been able to help women who have previously been unable to have children to conceive.
Prof. Dr. Breymann is able to improve the chances of a successful pregnancy even after multiple miscarriages caused by malformations of the uterus, and has therefore been able to help many families fulfil their dream of having children. It is unsurprising, therefore, that numerous couples consult with him on fertility matters, even far outside German-speaking countries. It helps that the sought-after expert speaks English, Italian and French, as well as German.
“Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe Seefeld” covers more than just medical services and other questions relating to pregnancy, however. Prof. Dr. Breymann also offers medical check-ups using mammary sonography in order to be able to exclude or discover malignant lumps in the breast tissue. He is certified by the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM) for this very important imaging procedure.
Pioneering services: research in the field of iron deficiency
When it comes to iron deficiency in women, Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann is a real pioneer: by carrying out research in this field, he has been able to significantly influence the guidelines for treatment in Switzerland and abroad through his work. He is the author of over sixty publications and two books on the topic of iron deficiency in women alone!
New vitamin line founded: "Pura Swiss"
In addition to his far above-average knowledge of anemia, iron and vitamins, it is perfectly fitting that Prof. Christian Breymann also shows responsibility and commitment in another field: Together with marketing specialist Asha Hill, he founded the "Pura Swiss" vitamin line, which helps people to cope with the different phases of life with the best possible health and well-being. The holistic approach that characterizes his professional activity means that women and men fully trust his developments - whether they are anti-aging products, fertility enhancers, or vitamin supplements to achieve a better balance during pregnancy.
His international reputation is attributable to more than just his scientific publications, however. Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann has earned a special reputation, including outside of Zurich, in the field of perinatal medicine, i.e. the provision of medical care during pregnancy up until shortly after birth. He has proven his wide range of skills in this field on more than one occasion. For example, he is the representative of NESA (New European Surgical Academy) in the field of obstetrics for Switzerland, personally receiving an official award from Prof. M. Stark, the inventor of the “protective Caesarean section”, for the Misgav-Ladach method.
Expert in the field of “protective Caesarean sections”
Whether a pregnancy is uncomplicated or high-risk, the expert team at the practice provides patients with support from the beginning of their pregnancy right through to the birth. Unique aspects of each individual case are recognised and taken into account in a highly sensitive manner in order to ensure the optimum development of the child and to prepare for a successful birth. In this regard, Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann and his team are always open to requests and take the personal preferences of parents into account as much as possible. The question of whether the goal is a vaginal birth or a Caesarean section is answered in consultation with the patient, and patients and their partners can always rely on optimum care being provided during the birth.
In order to guarantee that the highest level of care is provided during pregnancy, Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann established “Perinatal Zurich” in 2013, which is an organisation dedicated to prenatal diagnostics, perinatal advice and obstetrics. One of the objectives of the organisation is to provide other consultants in the field of gynaecology with support in the event of complex problems and questions—in particular in the field of prenatal diagnostics—and to provide advice and support for high-risk births. As a unique network, “Perinatal Zurich” brings together experts and organisations with the objective always being to pool skills. The organisation, which is highly esteemed in the field, is also dedicated to research and development in the field of perinatal medicine.
Ultrasound and 4D imaging
Prof. Dr. Breymann is extremely skilled at carrying out imaging procedures, including during pregnancy. He has been involved in the development of sonography over the past twenty years and therefore experienced the entire development course of this technology as it happened. He ran the ultrasound special consultation session at the University Hospital of Zurich for a significant period of time. In this own practice, as well as in the associated “Perinatal Zurich” organisation, ultrasound checks are carried out and documented in accordance with the guidelines set by the Swiss and German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.
This is advantageous not least because all findings are saved in the electronic records kept for each pregnancy: expectant mothers also find looking at 3D and 4D images of their child fascinating. If the child is positioned favourably in order to do so, these images can be obtained at any time. Prof. Dr. Breymann has outstanding expertise in this area too, and is on the scientific advisory board for “3D Medical Printing AG”. What's more, as with the topic of iron deficiency in women, he is a genuine pioneer in the field of medical 3D printing, having worked together with the company to develop the technology for 3D imaging during pregnancy.
Ultrasound examinations are a part of pregnancy, and the imaging done in the first and second trimesters is particularly important in order to be able to exclude genetic changes or malformations. This not only means that heart problems are discovered at an early stage, but also that the brain and all the organs are checked thoroughly. The weight of the child is determined and the child's circulation as well as that of the placenta are checked.
Safety first... and sensitivity
In order to obtain the child’s cells for chromosome investigations and therefore to determine their genetics, Prof. Dr. Breymann uses amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, both of which are the “gold standard” when it comes to prenatal genetic investigations. Plenty of experience is required in order to carry out these investigations with next to no risk, making “GGS” is right place for women to have such procedures. This also applies for chorionic villus sampling: this method enables diseases to be identified based on a change in the number of chromosomes or their structures. Genetic diseases and metabolic disorders can also be diagnosed in this manner, and a broad range of symptoms, such as trisomy 21, can be identified at an early stage using this procedure. The question of whether chorionic villus sampling is advisable is, of course, answered by means of examinations and discussions. The main thing is that, whatever their needs, patients are extremely well looked after by Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann. As a result of the number of prenatal genetic tests on offer nowadays, expert advice is extremely important in terms of both what these tests can offer and their limits, in order to determine the most advisable course of action. In fact, obtaining such advice is now prescribed by law and it is better to go to the right expert straight away. At “Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe Seefeld”, patients receive top-quality advice from the expert team of doctors, and the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University of Zurich is consulted whenever required.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Breymann has a very sensitive, flexible and consistent stance regarding second opinions. Some patients who come to “Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe Seefeld” may be happy with their gynaecologist in general, but wish to get everything checked out by an internationally renowned expert. The team is used to that here: at the end of the day, many practising gynaecologists also consult with our outstanding practice in the centre of Zurich whenever they have any specialist questions! The practice’s values, which form the basis for the work that is carried out here, are widely renowned: in addition to professional quality and the highest level of expertise, values such as honesty and emotionality are also fundamental aspects of the practice’s philosophy.
