A comprehensive list of publications of journal articles provides an overview of Prof. Huk's research activities. Concurrently, the expert in vascular surgery also gives many international lectures at the most distinguished vascular surgery and medical conferences.
In student surveys, Prof. Huk and his vascular surgery teaching at the Vienna University Medical School rank under the Top 10 in teacher ratings.
The Vienna University Medical School has a decade-long tradition of incorporating both its proprietary and internationally obtained scientific findings and research results into teaching content and patient management at an early stage.
The main areas of responsibility in the areas of scientific findings, research and patient care include the treatment of aortic aneurysms by common carotid artery grafting, carotid artery surgeries of neck and brain to prevent strokes as well as what are called iliac-popliteal-crural bypass reconstructions and operative laser treatment of varicose veins. In contrast to this, the expert in vascular surgery, Prof. Huk in Vienna, pursues his antioxidant research and scientific reperfusion studies in basic research, then transferring his translational findings to the patient care.
The special clinical focus of Prof. Huk's Vascular Surgery Department at the Vienna University Medical School is carotid surgery, i.e. operations on the common carotid artery, cerebrovascular insufficiency and, hence, surgical procedures for preventing strokes. In addition, Prof. Huk treats abdominal aortic aneurysms by means of open surgery or endoluminal stenting to dilate the abdominal aortic. Moreover, Prof. Huk, vascular surgery expert in Vienna, performs bypass surgeries and varicose vein surgeries. In this context, Prof. Huk treats thousands of inpatients, with up to 3000 candidates for outpatient care.
In patient care, Prof. Huk is supported by twelve additional experts in vascular surgery.
