Dr Volker Fackeldey is a specialist in general and abdominal surgery with additional qualifications and recognition in the fields of proctology (2006), coloproctology EBSQ (2008) and special abdominal surgery (2012). Dr Fackeldey has led the Department of General and Abdominal Surgery of the Kitzinger Land Clinic in Kitzingen as its Senior Consultant since April 2008. Under his management, the Clinic was certified in 2010 and re-certified in 2013 by two influential specialist associations as a Centre of Excellence for Coloproctology.
The Coloproctology Centre of Excellence of the Kitzinger Land Clinic described as the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre specialises in the conservative and surgical treatment of patients with benign and malignant conditions of the large intestine and the rectum. Above all, the surgical treatment of rectal conditions such as cancer of the colon, rectal cancer and diverticulitis within the framework of colorectal surgery forms a significant focus of activity of the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre. The surgical treatment of rectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistulas and anal fissures within the scope of rectal surgery or surgical proctology is also a focus of the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre.
In order to be able to guarantee comprehensive care for the patients concerned in all phases of their condition, from early recognition and diagnosis to treatment and to co-ordinating follow-up care, specialists from the various departments collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner at the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre. Here, the participating specialist departments include, in particular, the Department of Abdominal Surgery, the Department of Gastroenterology and the Department of Oncology. As well, radiologists, radiotherapists, urologists, gynaecologists, pain therapists, specialists in palliative medicine and psycho-oncologists are closely involved in the care of patients with intestinal conditions at the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre under the leadership of Dr Fackeldey.
The treatment for patients with intestinal cancer is planned and individually adapted to the respective patients of the Main-Franconia Intestinal and Rectal Centre at weekly tumour conferences, in which the specialists from all departments concerned participate.
