Dr. Francis Ch. Kilian, specialist in neurosurgery and orthopedics, is the Chief Physician of the Department of Spinal Surgery and Head of the Spinal Center of the Coblenz Catholic Hospital in Montabaur, at the Coblenz Brothers’ House.
Back pain is the No. 1 common medical condition in Germany. Repetitive sitting, too little movement overall, poor posture, as well as a predisposition are the causes of the affected patients’ back problems. From the cervical spinal column to the coccyx, 33 vertebrae form the spinal column and an intervertebral disk sits between each pair of vertebral bodies. Herniated disks (where parts of the intervertebral disk extend into the spinal canal) are a daily occurrence, are very painful and previously involved lengthy treatment.
Dr. Kilian works across the entire field of special and general spinal surgery. He provides all stabilizing and reconstructive techniques, including microsurgery and surgery to the spinal cord, whether for degenerated intervertebral disks, bony stenosis, spinal fracture, tumor or inflammation. He is also the ideal contact for all orthopedic and neurosurgical indications.
The Coblenz Catholic Hospital is a nonprofit group hospital, the academic teaching hospital of University Medicine Mainz, and is equipped with cutting-edge technology. Surgical techniques have been dramatically revolutionized, above all in the field of spinal surgery, and can be performed more gently and with mush less risk for the patient. Large, unattractive scars after surgery are a thing of the past, and the rehabilitation methods are also very much more relaxed. Dr. Kilian collaborates closely with the hospital’s physical therapy team in order for a high degree of mobility to be able to be achieved again for the patient as quickly as possible.
The Spinal Center was certified at Level II by the German Spinal Association (DWG). The Department of Spinal Surgery led by Dr. Kilian is the only hospital in Rhineland-Palatinate, which has been certified at the highest level, which underscores the outstanding competence and quality of Dr. Kilian, his team and the entire Catholic Hospital.
