Dr. med. Farman Hedayat is a specialist in neurosurgery and has held an active leading position for over ten years. He is equipped with extensive experience in the entire field of neurosurgery and in operations on the spine. Dr. Hedayat has a goal of continuously improving upon his skills and knowledge within this field.
Dr. Hedayat graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne, where he began his education in neurosurgery. He then continued his training as an assistant in the neurosurgical clinic at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed it at the St. Barbara-Klinik Hamm-Heessen.
From 2006 to 2013, Dr. Hedayat worked as a senior physician in the newly founded neurosurgical department in the Hospital of the City of Wolfsburg (NTW), where he had been the leading senior physician since 2008. Dr. Hedayat worked as a senior physician in the Clinic for Spinal Surgery at St. Josef Hospital Paderborn and was also employed as a doctor at the Neurosurgery Practice Paderborn from 2013 until he began working at the Ortho-Clinic Dortmund on January 1, 2016. Here, he expanded his wide range of operations to include endoscopically-performed intervertebral disc surgeries as well as minimally invasive percutaneous and robotic stabilization procedures in the thoracic and lumbar spine.
From January 1, 2016 until December 31, 2020, Dr. Hedayat was employed as chief physician at the Center for Spinal Surgery and Palliative Care at the Ortho-Clinic Dortmund. Within a short period of time, Dr. Hedayat advanced this center in such a way that, under his leadership, the spinal surgery center, as a special center of the DWG (Level 2- Spinal Center), was certified by the German Society for Spine Surgery as the third clinic nationwide on May 15, 2017 soon after the completion of the pilot phase.
Beginning on January 1, 2021, Dr. Hedayat works as a partner in the newly established Neurosurgical Spinal Center Grafenberg with an unaltered range of services for private patients and also, beginning on April 1, 2021, for patients with statutory health insurance.
Services offered here include conservatice pain therapy, microtherapy (injections of the spine), and the entire operative range of spinal surgeries including surgeries on tumors as well as vertebral replacements using endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques
The advancement of new operational procedures and techniques have revolutionized the operational treatment of spinal conditions. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Hedayat specializes in the conservative and surgical treatment of patients with spinal conditions following international standards.
Dr. Hedaya is an expert in neurosurgery who specializes in spinal conditions and their conservative and surgical therapies. His basic goal is to prevent operations through conservative therapies as well as cooperation with physiotherapists. If, however, an operation is necessary, Dr. Hedayat has extensive experience in the entire field of neurosurgery and on surgical interventions of the entire spine following the most modern standards and knowledge.
The German Society for Spine Surgery (DWG) awarded Dr. Hedayat with the master certificate “Spinal Surgery” and the joint basis certificate “Spinal Surgery” along with “Conservative Therapy.” In addition, Dr. Hedayat possesses the european basic certificate in “spine surgery,” awarded by the Eurospine-Society. The certificate of the DWG, which is awarded in several stages, includes a comprehensive education in the field of spinal surgery and conservative therapy. In comparison internationally, this system has a very high level of requirements and is unique in Germany because of the affiliation of multiple expert associations.
Dr. Hedayat’s ambition is to continually improve upon his knowledge and further develop his abilities for the benefit of the patients entrusted to him. For this purpose, Dr. Hedayat has always continued to develop and master the most modern endoscopic surgical techniques (keyhole surgeries) on the entire spine as well as minimally invasive percutaneous surgical treatments for the stabilization of the spine in the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical regions, also using the newest navigation and electrophysiological techniques.
The focus in Dr. Hedayat’s practice is the diagnosis and treatment of spinal conditions, for example, discopathy, narrowing of the spinal canal, instabilities, spinal fractures from trauma and osteoporosis, as well as tumor diseases. The range of treatments include conservative therapeutic measures and also surgical treatments on spinal conditions.

- Microsurgery and endoscopic disc surgery, as well as the widening of narrowed spinal canals.
- Minimally invasive straightening with balloon catheters and cementing of vertebral body fractures (kyphoplasty)
