Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Planz is Head of the Department of Urology and Pediatric Urology at St. Barbara Hospital Gladbeck, where he and his experienced team provide expert care for approximately 3,300 inpatient and 3,000 outpatient patients each year. The department includes 47 beds and is supported by close collaboration among three senior physicians, seven resident physicians, and 29 nursing staff members – a strong foundation for comprehensive patient care.
Under the leadership of Prof. Planz, the department has developed several key areas of expertise: the Prostate Center for benign and malignant prostate diseases, the treatment of tumors of the bladder, kidney, and external genitalia, as well as the Continence and Pelvic Floor Center. Additional core competencies include the treatment of urinary stone disease, pediatric urology (including congenital malformations of the urinary tract), andrology including sexual dysfunction, and reconstructive urethral surgery.
Prof. Planz is recognized as a leading expert not only in surgical procedures, but also in specialized minimally invasive techniques, robot-assisted surgery, and advanced therapies such as HIVEC and HIFU for the treatment of bladder and prostate cancer. His commitment also extends to clinical research and the coordination of specialized centers in the fields of prostate care, uro-oncology, continence, and pelvic floor medicine.
