Asst Lect. Dr Mike H. Baums is the Senior Consultant of the Orthopaedics, Accident Surgery and Sports Traumatology Clinic at St Elisabeth’s Hospital, Dorsten. As a specialist orthopaedic surgeon, accident surgeon and orthopaedic rheumatologist, Asst Lect. Dr Baums specialises in the conservative and surgical treatment of conditions, injuries and deformities of the human musculoskeletal system.

Here, in particular, knee surgery and shoulder surgery are specific emphases of the surgical work of Asst Lect. Dr Baums. So, as a certified knee surgeon (DKG – the German Knee Society), he performs meniscus fixations, meniscus replacement surgery, cartilage replacement surgery, cartilage cell transplantations, cruciate ligament replacement surgery and the insertion of artificial knee joints, for example, at the orthopaedic-accident surgery clinic of St Elisabeth’s Hospital, Dorsten. As a certified shoulder and elbow surgeon (DVSE – the German Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association e.V.), Asst Lect. Dr Baums is primarily concerned with the surgical treatment of injuries to the rotator cuff and shoulder conditions such as calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, injuries to the shoulder joint, shoulder instability or impingement syndrome.

Here, he utilises both minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgical techniques and open surgical techniques. Together with joint-preserving arthroscopic and open surgery, the insertion of artificial joints (endoprosthesis) in the knee, shoulder and hips in the course of endoprosthetics is also among the service emphases of Asst Lect. Dr Baums and his team at the orthopaedic-accident surgery clinic of St Elisabeth’s Hospital in Dorsten.

As well as artificial joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery, the service portfolio of the Orthopaedics, Accident Surgery and Sports Traumatology Clinic in Dorsten also includes age-related traumatology and the treatment of bony fractures. Here, above all, the emergency care of accident victims and the injured plays a large role at the acute orthopaedic-accident surgical clinic. For this reason, the capable team of orthopaedic surgeons and accident surgeons under Asst Lect. Dr Baums is available for injured patients, 24 hours per day.

All procedures can be performed both as out-patient and as in-patient procedures at the clinic. Thereby, the ultramodern, technical facilities and the high level of qualification of the specialists under Asst Lect. Dr Baums guarantee an optimal treatment in accordance with the most up-to-date national and international quality standards.
