Prof. Dr. med. Atesch Ateschrang has been Chief Physician of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Kantonspital Aarau (KSA), the largest hospital in the Swiss canton of Aargau, since January 1, 2025. With his broad expertise and many years of experience in orthopedics and traumatology, he plays a central role in the care of patients with complex orthopedic and traumatological diseases and injuries. Prof. Dr. med. Atesch Ateschrang has a sound medical education and a wide range of further training. He completed his specialist training in trauma surgery and orthopedics and deepened his knowledge through numerous additional training courses, including specialization in complex trauma surgery and reconstructive joint surgery. His expertise in knee and hip surgery as well as shoulder and elbow surgery is particularly noteworthy. He was also appointed a specialist in special trauma surgery in 2022 and has been a certified foot and ankle surgeon since 2011. In his previous position as a senior physician at the Trauma Centre at the University Hospital of Tübingen, Prof. Dr. Ateschrang was already able to achieve significant successes through his in-depth clinical work and his commitment to reconstructive joint surgery. In particular, he devoted himself to the treatment of post-traumatic and congenital joint deformities, which further strengthened his expertise in the field of reconstructive surgery. During this time, he also played a key role in polytrauma care and the treatment of severely injured patients, which made him a recognized specialist in interdisciplinary trauma care. For almost five years, Professor Ateschrang headed the trauma center of the Evangelical Monastery in Koblenz and was recognized as a leading musculoskeletal surgeon by Fokus and Stern for many years.

With this very valuable wealth of experience, Professor Ateschrang and his experienced team of senior physicians at Aarau Cantonal Hospital offer the complete and at the same time demanding spectrum of orthopaedic and traumatological treatments. The KSA pursues an integrative approach and, in addition to basic care, also offers highly specialized medicine for severely injured patients. Particular emphasis is placed on the treatment of acute injuries, bone fractures and polytrauma. State-of-the-art technology is used here, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures, which lead to shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times for patients. Prof. Dr. Ateschrang and his team not only specialize in joint and spinal surgery, but also in the treatment of sports injuries and the treatment of patients with complex injuries affecting several regions of the body. In addition, the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at Aarau Cantonal Hospital maintains close interdisciplinary collaborations, including with the Center for Musculoskeletal and Implant-Associated Infections and the Center for Sports Medicine. Prof. Dr. Ateschrang attaches great importance to close cooperation with various disciplines in order to provide all patients with the best possible, comprehensive treatment. In addition to his clinical expertise, Prof. Dr. Ateschrang is also actively involved in medical training and the promotion of young surgeons.
