Four surgical specialisms under one roof: At IN MOTION, The Centre for Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery in Wallisellen in Switzerland, a complete care package is provided to the highest standard for issues relating to the spine, shoulders and elbows, hips and knees, and feet and ankles. All areas of specialism are covered by renowned experts: Dr. med. Hans-Jürgen Becker, Dr. med. Matthias Flury, Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Florian Naal and Dr. med. Jens Mainzer.
Wallisellen, in the Canton of Zurich, has plenty to offer. This town stands out thanks to its rural charm, good air quality, and an orthopaedic and neurosurgical clinic that is gaining greater attention nationally. This is due not least to the excellent combination provided by the four distinguished specialists who set up a clinic here together.
Staying in motion
In 2018, when the four experienced consultants decided to bundle their skills, one thing was clear: here was a new destination for obtaining expert medical treatment for the entire locomotor system. The top doctors quickly found a motto that covered all their aspects of their work for their specialist clinic: "For your life in motion". The phrase comes from the poet Friedrich Hebbel: "Not stillness, not departure, but motion is the purpose of life".
Treatment for the entire locomotor system
This is exactly what the four consultants, who have all worked for many years at renowned specialist clinics, aim to do: help people regain the joy of movement. Life is primarily about being able to move, after all – ideally without pain. And this applies to all parts of the body that are directly connected to movement: the spine, shoulders and elbows, hips and knees, and feet and ankles.
IN MOTION – these are the four doctors:
Dr. med. Hans-Jürgen Becker, a Consultant in Neurosurgery, specialises in spinal diseases and their treatment. He not only carries out surgical work but, having obtained the further training qualification, also provides interventional pain treatment. He is the author and co-author of numerous academic articles. Dr. Becker is, for example, a member of the Swiss Medical Association (FMH), the Swiss Society for Neurosurgery (SGNC), the Swiss Society for Interventional Pain Treatment (SSIPM), and the Eurospine Society. He speaks fluent English, French and Italian.
Dr. med. Matthias Flury, a Consultant in Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the locomotor system, has specialised in treating shoulder and elbow problems for over 20 years, focussing on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques and joint prostheses. Dr. Flury is a member of many expert groups and specialist societies, is an active scientific contributor to multiple projects, and speaks regularly at national and international specialist congresses. He was presented with the "Award for outstanding research in orthopaedic surgery" at the 9th International Congress on Surgery of the Shoulder ICSS in Washington DC, USA.
Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Florian Naal, a Consultant in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, specialises in treating hip and knee problems. His expertise in minimally invasive hip prostheses and joint retention hip surgery is attested to by scientific publications and specialist lectures. He holds a university lectureship, is active in specialist societies and at congresses, and is also a member of the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery and the European Hip Society. In 2015 he received the AFOR Wirtschaftspreis for his postdoctoral thesis.
Dr. med. Jens Mainzer is a Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. After obtaining international experience in the Netherlands, the USA and Canada, in Germany and England, the orthopaedist, who holds a doctorate and has authored/co-authored scientific articles and contributions to scientific books, has dedicated himself entirely to his specialism at IN MOTION in Wallisellen – namely, the treatment of misalignment, degenerative changes and injuries, as well as the consequences thereof, relating to the foot and ankle. The focus of course remains on retaining the joint wherever possible. In addition to non-operative measures, his range of services includes open, arthroscopic and minimally invasive operation methods. Apart from German he speaks English, French, and Czech.
Surgical and conservative treatment
The Centre for Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, near Zurich in Switzerland, naturally offers more than just surgical intervention. For the four consultants, treatment starts with clarification, after which a decision is made as to whether conservative or operative treatment is advisable. The investigations and clarifications, including X-ray investigations, take place at the clinic in Wallisellen. Specialised imaging procedures, such as MRI and CT scans, are arranged straight away at the neighbouring Institute of Radiology.
The operations do not take place in Wallisellen itself. The experienced consultants work at multiple private clinics and hospitals. This means that patients can decide together with the doctor where any operations are carried out: at the Bethanien or Lindberg private clinics, at Uster hospital, or at Triemli city hospital.
A full package of expertise: an experienced practice team
An experienced practice team, which communicates the clinic's standards to patients in an expert and friendly manner, contributes to the specialist expertise in the field of diseases of the entire locomotor system. The team looks after each individual patient's wishes and needs in the best-possible manner.
